A Reflection On Freedom

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a Federal holiday commemorating the Declaration of Independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts and baseball games as well as political speeches and ceremonies.

Various other public and private events celebrate the history, government and traditions of our country. What makes America so wonderful is that our diversity is reflected in many nationalities, cultures and religions. Collectively we are White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern and much more. Although our nation has its share of problems, it is still the greatest country in the world because of one major component – Freedom.

Many of us have had the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of freedom by becoming entrepreneurs and starting our own businesses. Here in the United States, we are privileged to make great money by entertaining people of all races, colors and creeds. It is important to remember that our freedom is a privilege, not a right. I have been given the privilege to serve thousands of people as an entertainer. Yes, I said privilege and serve. As entertainers we are in the service industry.

We are blessed to have American men and women fighting a war on terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan to protect the freedom and privileges that we enjoy on a daily basis. These soldiers need our support.  One way to show your support, is to simply express your gratitude.  The next time you see a soldier at an airport, grocery store or out in the street, why don’t you take a moment to say, “Thank you for your service.” Show that you are a person who cares. Our brave soldiers put their lives on the line to demonstrate their love for our country, and it is our job to keep that fire of patriotism alive.

On a personal note, I don’t take for granted that a poor Puerto Rican kid (me) who grew up in the ghettos of Brooklyn, NY, would one day be able to leave the ghetto and move to Southern California. I eventually settled in the metro Phoenix area and have had the opportunity to run my own full-time business for 30 of the last 40 years in this industry.

May we stand stall and use the fire of our passion as entertainers to proudly serve our clients. Although our job may never measure up to the sacrifice of our soldiers, one thing you can be sure of is that we are blessed with the gratitude from our clients by sacrificing for them to make their events memorable.
